I haven’t forgotten how to write to you
To mum and Omi.
I could never have experienced my grandmother as I wanted to. I never laughed at her jokes. I never cried at her death. My child’s innocence did not notice; her Alzheimer’s did not let me enter. My grandparents migrated from Germany to Australia a few years after the Second World War. My mother migrated back to Europe many years later. By visualizing their journeys through archival material, diaries, her letters and creating new photographs, I investigate their past lives and try to come closer to a person I never knew.
