Last portrait of Wim Koene, my grandfather. 

While having his portrait taken, my grandfather remarked that this would be his bidprintje—the Dutch word for the memorial card sent to loved ones after one’s passing. He had already accepted his death and knew it was drawing near.

This moment showed his quiet acceptance of what was to come—something we only fully recognized in hindsight. It was a reflection of his understanding and acknowledgment of life’s natural course.
